Ballet Philippines teams up with Repertory Philippines and the Manila Symphony Orchestra for a historic theatrical collaboration in The Theater at Solaire.
In a feature by Leah Salterio for ABS-CBN News, Ballet Philippines’ upcoming 56th season launch is spotlighted as a landmark cultural event that brings together three of the country’s premier performing arts institutions—Ballet Philippines, Repertory Philippines, and the Manila Symphony Orchestra.
For the first time, the three companies are joining forces on one stage to present a family-friendly double bill: Peter and the Wolf and Little Red Riding Hood, running from August 1 to 3 at The Theatre at Solaire. Peter and the Wolf, composed by Sergei Prokofiev, is a classic symphonic tale that introduces children to the instruments of the orchestra.
Each character is represented by a different instrument—the bird by a flute, the duck by an oboe, the cat by a clarinet, and so on—making it both educational and entertaining. Ballet and theatrical elements will enhance the performance, creating an engaging fusion of music, dance, and storytelling.
Little Red Riding Hood will be presented as a full-length ballet set to the music of Camille Saint-Saëns and Edvard Grieg. This playful reimagining of the well-known fairy tale will follow the journey of a young girl who discovers the value of kindness, brought to life through original choreography and musical interpretation. Beyond the artistry, this production also represents a significant outreach initiative.
Ballet Philippines announced it will distribute free tickets to indigenous children, military personnel, and other underserved communities. The MSO will also bring in their own beneficiaries to enjoy the performance. With only five performances scheduled, this ambitious production promises to be a highlight of the season—uniting generations through timeless storytelling and live performance.
