Hosting an event with Ballet Philippines provides a platform to
showcase our performances and talented dancers. In-turn, these
events then generate funds that support the progression of our
mission, vision and educational programs.
It was a sunny Monday morning when media friends and loyal patrons of the ballet gathered for brunch and a private preview of Ballet Philippines’ Coppelia. The Oasis Garden Cafe with its daylight roof and beautifully landscaped indoor garden seemed the ideal venue to showcase an excerpt of BP’’s season opener show, Coppelia. Harvest season from Act 1 set the tone for brunch that lasted till the early afternoon. And, as guests commented, it was just what they needed to start the week on a high note.
Media friends from Manila Bulletin, Manila Times, Tatler, Mega, Lifestyle Asia, BluPrint, Metro Channel, People Asia and Vogue were present. Orchestrated more as a casual get-together of friends than your usual press event, the guest list also included beloved regulars of Ballet Philippines’ much-talked about galas. They were joined by Ballet Philippines’ President Kathleen Liechtenstein as well as Trustees Bernie Aboitiz and Rosalind Wee.
Brunch was unhurried even for a Monday. It began with fresh and aromatic Asian starters from the kitchen of Oasis Garden Cafe. This was followed by hearty, comforting plates of pork knuckles, poached egg, hollandaise sauce, calamansi aioli, and bird’s eye chili (also known as Oasis Sisig Express). Just before dessert, Ballet Philippines presented a lively and spirited excerpt from Act 1 of Coppelia. The company’s well loved Artistic Director, Mikhail “Misha” Martynyuk explained, “The role of Franz in Coppelia was my very first performance as a professional dancer. I can sing the music from start to finish. After my debut in Coppelia, I got 24 invitations to dance in Coppelia all over Europe.”
According to Ballet Philippines’ President Kathleen Liechtenstein, the choice to open the 54th Season with Coppelia will showcase the company’s unrivaled technical prowess in the classical style of dancing. “We are returning to a beloved classic with Coppelia” she said. “As we dedicate the season to unveiling the Power of Dance, this performance will be an uplifting and inspiring experience that families can share at the theatre.”
Ballet Philippines’ COPPELIA will run from August 4 to 6 at the Theatre at Solaire. For tickets, click here or via TicketWorld
