DANCE HERE AND NOW:
EQUUS
BOLERO AND OTHER DANCES
SEPTEMBER 17-18, 2022
After two years of dancing online, Ballet Philippines brings back the excitement and the glory of live stage performances with Equus, Bolero, and Other Dances.
Equus, derived from the Latin word that directly translates to “horse”, represents the hard work put in by a dancer. A dancer’s work is likened to the work, strength, force, and grace of a horse. But beyond the metaphor, Equus is a reflection of ballet artistry at its finest.
Bolero, danced to the music of Maurice Ravel, is a powerful performance seeped in Spanish influences. The almost hypnotic, fluid movement of this performance is reminiscent of a toreador, accompanied by the very same music that has remained distinct and contemporary 93 years later.
Dance Through Time
As part of Ballet Philippines 53rd Season Gala Performance, this visually exciting mixed bill takes audiences through various eras of dance—-and time.
OTHER DANCES (Dance Through Time) Choreographed and restaged by Ballet Philippines’ Artistic Director Mikhail Martynyuk
Dance Through Time is a mixed bill that creatively represents Philippine culture and the significant events in its rich history. In this fascinating journey through time, each dance will take audiences through the revolution of dance—from the early ages up to the present. Choreographed and restaged by Ballet Philippines’ Misha Martynyuk, this debut performance is set to be an extraordinary sensorial experience, all at once moving, enduring, and captivating.
Dance Through Time will showcase timeless dances like Romeo and Juliet (music by Sergie Prokofiev), Filibuster (music by Mikhail Glinka), La Bayadere (music by Ludwig Minkus), Scheherazade (music by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov), Spanish Dance from Nutcracker (music by Pytor Ilyich Tchaikovsky), Don Quixote (music by Ludwig Minkus), Ballet Folk (to the music of Pandanggo sa Ilaw by Antonio Buenaventura) and Carmen (music by Georges Bizet).
